Wal-Mart Inc. is an American multinational retail enterprise headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. It is the first in the ranking of the world’s largest 500 companies selected by the US “Fortune” magazine in 2014-2018. It is also the world’s largest private employer, with more than two million employees, and is the world’s largest retailer. Wal-Mart is still a family business. Its controlling shareholder is the Walton family, which owns 48% of Wal-Mart.

According to the 2019 Fortune Global 500 list, Wal-Mart is the world’s largest company by revenue, with revenue of US $ 514.405 billion. It is also the world’s largest private employer, with 2.2 million employees. This is a publicly traded family business because the company is controlled by the Walton family. Sam Walton ’s heirs own more than 50% of Wal-Mart ’s shares through the shares held by its holding company, the Walton Enterprise Group and its individuals. Wal-Mart is the largest grocery retailer in the United States in 2019, with 65% of Wal-Mart ’s $ 510.329 billion in sales coming from US operations.
